A bittersweet day…

Today is kind of a bittersweet day…one of those days where you have a great time but in the back of your mind you realize it’s back to the grind tomorrow.  Sometimes working for a living just really sucks:)

I woke up around 7, and had the same breakfast I’ve had the past couple days…:) 

Tomorrow it’s yogurt on the cereal though…I just wanted to use up my milk:)

I then got a call from my mom around 8 asking me if I was busy today.  I had no plans, so she came over and we went to Costco.  I stocked up on my favorite baby cukes and tomatoes, and come yummy looking dried berry mix I thought would be great in some oatmeal.  I really wanted some fresh blueberries and raspberries like I bought last weekend, but there were no berries of any kind in the cooler.  I’ve decided the ONLY time to go to there is Saturday right as it opens, when everything is stocked and fresh.

We shopped at Southgate mall for a while, and had lunch at A&W.  I was so tempted by a Teen Burger and fries and gravy, but I was good and had a grilled chicken sandwich and salad (only 6WW point for that…pretty good).  My mom had the Teen and fries though.  She is maintaining her weight loss very well though, so she could afford the splurge.  I did call her mean however:)  I think in another few weeks it’ll be time to give in to my craving.  I do allow it every couple months.  Sometimes you just have to do it.   And I forgot my camera…no pics.  Sorry:)

And also unpictured was some honey wheat pretzels while watching the Canada/US gold medal game.  I never watch sports, but we decided to watch the last period.  I did call it when I said it would tie at the last second and go into overtime.  But I was wrong when I said the US would win.  I’m such a postive person.  But yay Canada:) 

And dinner was some flax pita and hummus with veg.

So tomorrow it’s back to work (I’m on days tomorrow and Tuesday and nights the rest of the week), so hopefully I’ll remember to bring my camera.

Breakfast for dinner

Hello all:) Hope you’re having a good weekend. My day has been good…managed to get in a workout and a nice walk outside today. Now tonight I plan on curling up on the couch with a cup of tea and a movie.

Breakfast was a repeat of yesterdays…Puffins and Bran Buds with banana and milk.

Tomorrow I am likely having the same thing…I’m trying to use up those Puffins before I break into a new box of Kashi or Oatmeal Squares:)

Mid morning snack was some honey wheat pretzels…a Wal-Mart brand of all things. These are super yummy. My boyfriend grocery shops there and told me about them. So now I get him to get me a bag when he goes:) (I’m a Sobey’s/Safeway/Costco shopper myself…I’m very picky about grocery stores and am willing to pay more for food for a nice shopping environment and a good deli, bakery and produce department.)

Lunch was some mayo and waterchestnut tuna on a sandwich thin and some veg as usual…

And tonight I felt like breakfast for dinner. I really had a craving for eggs and a bagel. This is a half sesame bagel with Laughing Cow, and one omega egg and 1/3 cup egg whites scrambled. I recently discovered that I can have a big pile of eggs by adding the egg whites for less calories, and I still get the nutrition of one yolk. I don’t know if I could do pure egg white, plus all the good nutrition is in the yolk anyways.

And I was a good girl and did my weight training workout program that my trainer Gail made for me.  I work up as much of a sweat doing that as running!  Next Tuesday she should have a new program for me.  Hopefully no squats this time Gail:)  (Yeah right…!)

Happy Friday!

One weekend left and then back to work on Monday…I’m such a positive person:)

Breakfast was a switch up…I had my cereal with milk today:) I had 1/2 cup plain Puffins, 1/3 cup Bran Buds (I think I should become the new spokesperson), and banana. I poured the milk on after so it wouldn’t get soggy while I took pictures…
And tea in my Lucy mug. I’m a huge Peanuts fan and when I saw this at Hallmark a couple weeks ago I just had to have it…

Lunch was a half turkey sammy…on Silver Hills Squirrley bread. I love this bread. It’s made with sprouted grain and has 5 grams of fibre per slice. Yes, I do have an obsession with my fibre intake…

A couple hours later, I was snacky, so I had some strawberries and Activia…

Dinner was a repeat of last nights…pizza and salad…I reheated the pizza in the oven on one of my Pampered Chef stoneware baking sheets so it was nice and crispy. I think I love Sobey’s pizza better than any takeout. I love a thin crackery crust.

I ran for 30 minutes today….3.8K avg 8.0K/hr.  Tomorrow or Sunday I need to get my weight training in.

Sigh…one more weekend…I have to make it a good one:)   Originally my boyfriend and I had plans, but he’s working now (we actually are both lab techs together in the same hospital, but due to the nature of our jobs, we don’t work together all that often).  My mom and dad just got back from Mexico yesterday, and I may spend some time with mom, but we’ll have to see.  Who knows, maybe I’ll just be spending some more time with my new Wii that I got for my birthday.  Yes, I’m 35 and I love Animal Crossing.  It relaxes me:) I’ve been playing Wild World on my DS for two years, so I had to get City Folk the day after I got the Wii.   I also love anything Mario and puzzle games.

This week is going by WAY too fast…

I hate how vacation weeks go by way too fast.  I only have three days left, and then it’s back to work.  Ugh.  Why can’t a week of evening or night shifts go by as quickly?

So anyways, after I posted yesterday, I had a couple graham crackers.  I love them because they’re just sweet enough, and I can have two for only 1 WW point.  When I can only eat 18-20 points a day, low point foods are a must.

And breakfast this morning was, you guess it, yogurt and cereal:)  Today, the usual Bran Buds, Activia, and banana, with a handful of Maple and Brown Sugar Quaker Oatmeal Squares.  These are so addicting.

And tea, today in my Tinkerbell mug…

Lunch was 2 ounces of turkey breast on a flax bun with garlic and herb Laughing Cow, and assorted raw veggies.

I then went and spent the afternoon at the hair salon.  I love getting my hair done.  When I got back (around 4) I was munchy, so I had a bowl of berries to tide me over while I made some dinner.

And while I was at the salon, I was trying to decide what I wanted to pick up for dinner.  It was a toss up between roast chicken or pizza from the Sobey’s deli.  I asked Kelly my hairdresser what she would pick.  “Pizza!” she said, and that was good enough for me.  So pizza it was.  Served with a salad, today with some canned mandarin orange segments on top for sweetness.  This is a rotisserie chicken and spinach pizza on a thin multigrain crust.  I don’t feel guilty when I eat it, because it is relatively low in fat and calories.  I added some mushrooms on top…

And like I said yesterday, no exercise today.  I need a day off:)

Nothing good on TV tonight, so I think I’ll watch the episodes of “Lost” I was only half watching this week:)

A typical day of eating for me…

For breakfast, I had 1/3 Kashi Go Lean Crunch, 1/3 cup All Bran Buds, 1 container of vanilla Activia and a banana. A typical breakfast for me. I feel like I have to eat my Bran Buds every day. They’re my answer for everything:) Make fibre your friend!

And always some tea…today in my Valentine’s Starbuck’s mug…

Lunch was also pretty typical for me. A little can of tuna, some cheddar, and assorted raw veggies…

With a Rice Krispie Square for a treat:)

For dinner, it was a salad (baby greens, carrot, mushrooms, cucumber and tomatoes), and two ounces of turkey breast on a Sobey’s Our Compliments sandwich thin spread with garlic and herb Laughing Cow…

And for exercise today, I ran 30 mins…came out to 3.86K avg 8.1K/hr.

Tomorrow will be a day off from working out because I will be getting my hair done all afternoon. I have this week off from work and I always have a salon day on a vacation week. I always take this week off in February, because my birthday is on the 21st, and I refuse to work on my birthday. I love having the week off for my birthday…it always gives me something to look forward too.

Tonight I’m watching “The Colony” on Discovery. I love this show. A group of people are experiencing what it would be like to have to survive after a catastrophe. Really interesting.

My little gym and new magazine Wednesday

I took a couple pics of my little gym. It’s really tiny, but it works for me. I have a Spirit brand treadmill, which I absolutely love. It was pricey, but I decided if I was going to invest in a treadmill, I wanted a GOOD one. I chose Spirit because it was what I was used to running on in the gym at the hospital, and I knew it was a good brand. There’s also a little TV mounted on the wall right above it, which gives me so much more incentive to actually USE my treadmill. It’s amazing what a distraction TV can be. I love to watch the Food Network or Three’s Company while I’m running after working a day shift (don’t laugh, it’s a guilty pleasure from childhood!).

And free weights, stability ball, and exercise mat…

And while I was out today, I found the new issues of all three of my favorite magazines, “Self”, “Shape”, and “Fitness”. Yay:)

Welcome to my blog!

Hello to my first readers, and welcome to my blog, “Yogurt and Cereal”! So since this is my first post, I guess the thing to do is tell you a little bit about myself and what this blog will be about.

My name is Dione, and I’m a 35 year old medical laboratory technologist from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This involves analysis of blood and other body fluids (not for everyone of course, but someone needs to do it, right?) I work in a hospital, so there is a lot of shift work involved; nights, weekends, holidays etc. After 7 years, I’ve gotten used to it!

In the past year or so, I’ve become very interested in healthy eating and exercise. I have my own little gym in the extra bedroom with a gym quality treadmill, free weights, and stability ball. I also keep a food and exercise journal to keep track of my food and workouts. I also have a personal trainer come to my house every couple weeks to push me along and switch up my program every once in a while.

So on to the purpose of my little blog. After months of reading healthy living blogs, I thought instead of just keeping track in my journal, it might be fun to do it in a blog as well. So I have been taking pictures of all my meals the past couple weeks, just to get used to it. My coworkers have looked at me strangely a couple times when I break out the camera and take pictures of my food, but oh well! They’ll just have to get used to it:) I’m going to try and post once a day, but sometimes life will probably get in the way.

And why “Yogurt and Cereal”? I’m kind of addicted to it for breakfast, and I’m sure that you will get tired of seeing my yogurt and cereal every day (I do switch it up with milk a few times a week, but I really love my vanilla Activia). Maybe having this blog will make me try and vary my breakfasts a little so you guys don’t get too bored:)
